Alberto Ramos Hidalgo is a cuban artist born in Havana, 1983. Has been doing art since a child and graduated from San Alejandro fine arts academy around 2001 at the age of 19 years old.
There, It was a great experience to learn from great teachers whos main motivation was the art itself. Little was the concern about the economic aspect of being an artist. All thanks of the disconnection from the capitalism's world outside the island.
There were many external influences coming from the 90's comic and Japanese video game culture, creating an interesting contrast with the culture inside the island, the themes and styles still resonated with Cuba's collective subconscious and were a more relatable reflection of the harsh reality of the times.
It was also amazing for him to travel to Spain and found out that Velazquez paintings were all messed up and also the greatest ones because of it. In just one day at the museum del Prado all the frustrations of learning to paint academically clicked in a relieving and encouraging inspiration.
Not long before his father was traveling from Spain to Cuba with graphics novels painted by who he considers a great influence. It was Slaine illustrated by Simon Bisley what created the foundations of his first steps into painting with the heart. Indirectly learning also from Frank
Frazetta that way.
And subliminally getting influenced by Piet Mondrian and Claude Monet at Reina Sofia Museum in one of his seasons living in Madrid.

Also wonderful for him to had the opportunity of teaching from 2001 to 2006 in the same academy that supported him so well. It was for sure an extension of his studies and sharing the freshly learned knowledges with the San Alejandro's younger students was beyond rewarding.

In 2008 a change of home took place. Now Miami US became an unexpected host of another cuban. At 26 years old it was hard to adapt, it is usually estrange for artists to fit in, let alone to fall in at a Jewish community with a different verbal language, social language, and economic system. But the isolation was the perfect storm that favored the further development of his technique and art language. 15 years in Bal Harbour made him also a Miami artist. From now on he does not see other path than reaching out with what he lives for. He made the commitment to create art that is balanced and healthy, he appreciates technology but nothing matches the nuances of human minds and brave hearts, it is probably the honest contribution he can offer to this world.
He wants his art to live in homes. He is a collector of his own creation, but he wants to share it with you. He has gained so much from you. It is probably time for him to try doing the same in return.
